Buongiorno e buon venerdì!! Oggi sono andata ad intervistare per voi una ragazza, ma prima di dirvi di chi si tratta, facciamo un passo indietro … L’anno scorso ero in una boutique a Thiene; stavo cercando il regalo per il mio compleanno.  Il negozio si chiamava “Rosa”, il mio ragazzo mi ci aveva portata e mi aveva detto che per i miei 32 anni potevo comprarmi quello che più mi piaceva! Figuratevi com’ero …  Concentrata ed  immersa tra quegli abiti,  a toccare i tessuti e i materiali di cui erano fatti sino al momento in cui ho avuto un incontro folgorante!Sì,  appesa  ad una gruccia c’era lei, una  borsa ed era  a dir poco bellissima … Se per l’abbigliamento vagavo per il negozio ancora indecisa, per la borsa ero sicura al 100%, volevo quella!Ho letto  la marca : V73. La mi curiosità mi ha spinta ad andare a parlare immediatamente con il titolare di “Rosa” per poter reperire maggiori informazioni possibili. In pochi minuti ho scoperto che le V73 vengono prodotte a Treviso da una ragazza meravigliosa di nome Elisabetta Armellin che in pochi mesi stava spopolando nel mondo dell’alta moda  e che tutti ne stavano già parlando.  Rimango sempre estasiata da questo tipo di aneddoti e penso che mi piacerebbe molto conoscere Elisabetta. Dopo aver acquistato la borsa , il desiderio di saperne di più rimane ed è insistente sino a quando,  per una seria di coincidenze, un anno dopo mi ritrovo seduta nel suo studio, sola con lei, a guardarla negli occhi e ad ascoltare la sua storia … Ed è stato un incontro bellissimo come se la conoscessi da sempre …

Elisabetta ci racconti cosa significa V73?

Il numero 73 è il numero che mi porto dietro dalla nascita perché è l’anno in cui  sono venuta al mondo, ma è anche un numero che mi ha seguita per tutta la mia vita, è il mio numero ricorrente.  Mentre la V sta per Venezia, io sono di Treviso, ma nel cuore logicamente ho Venezia e se mai quello che stavo creando avesse fatto il giro del mondo, volevo che ci fosse un nome che riportasse alla mia amata Italia e a Venezia.

Vuoi narrarci brevemente la tua vita?

Sono cresciuta in una meravigliosa famiglia  in cui mia nonna era sarta. Ho infatti respirato l’ambiente dell’abbigliamento da sempre e fin da bambina avevo molta creatività. Sognavo di diventare una stilista, ma non ero ancora certa di cosa, sentivo che la mia strada non era quella dell’abbigliamento. Successivamente ho fatto il liceo e mi sono laureata all’ Accademia di Belle Arti a Venezia. Durante gli anni universitari ho partecipato ad un concorso di decorazione fatto dall’azienda Stefanel. Eravamo in 150 e hanno scelto me. In quel periodo ho iniziato anche a lavorare come Visual ( nel settore moda è una figura aziendale che crea le vetrine per i proprio negozi) e per questo ho iniziato a girare il mondo; devo molto a questa esperienza che mi ha aperto la mente.

Dopo l’università cosa è accaduto?

Ho fatto un master a Milano alla Marangoni per calzature  e accessori e dopo averlo concluso, l’azienda Benetton mi ha assunta nel reparto calzature e  borse. E’ stata un’ esperienza lavorativa importantissima, mi ha formata come persona e come stilista, sono rimasta a lavorare per loro in quel ruolo per  10 anni, ma ancora oggi sono una loro consulente: per me la famiglia Benetton è come  fosse la mia.

A 33 anni cosa accade nella tua vita?

Vado a lavorare per Andrea Tomat,  direttore generale della Lotto sport, un’altra persona a cui devo molto. Insieme abbiamo creato le Lotto Leggenda (quelle con il fiore nero per intenderci). Solo che lui mi volle far fare un passo in avanti.  Aveva capito la mia grande capacità creativa, ma aveva anche compreso che di business non ne capivo nulla; ecco perché mi ha messa a capo di questo progetto completamente. Insomma, io ero tutta aria, fantasia e disegni , non capivo nulla di numeri e budget! Lui volle insegnarmi anche questa parte del nostro lavoro e io a fatica accettai la sfida!

Fu un progetto che andò molto bene e poi cosa accadde?

Tre anni e mezzo dopo Andrea mi chiese di far parte del progetto Stonfly, ma io ero combattuta,  sentivo che era arrivato il momento di partire per il mio “grande viaggio” .Era ora di creare qualcosa da sola.  Ho aperto così uno studio tutto mio.

E così inizi a muovere i primi passi da sola …

Sì, ma appena Benetton venne a saperlo mi chiese di fargli da consulente per le scarpe da bimbo e poi di conseguenza ho iniziato a lavorare per altre firme come Serafini, Gas, Stefanel, Coca ecc… insomma , era dura, ma in qualche modo ero partita e mio marito Stefano Greco mi ha dato una  mano perché lui possiede un’ azienda che produce tra l’Asia e l’Italia scarpe per conto terzi.

Insomma,  tutto stava andando bene …

Sì, direi di sì. Poi quattro anni fa è nato mio figlio Giacomo e mi sono un po’ rilassata, ma non troppo. Quando lui ha avuto tre mesi sono partita per Parigi per andare a vedere una fiera e lì è accaduto tutto!

Vuoi spiegarci meglio?

Per il lavoro che faccio compro e leggo milioni di riviste l’ anno. Amo guardare, assaporare, conoscere e prendere spunto logicamente da tutto il mercato della moda. Ero in aeroporto per tornare a casa e ho comprato Vogue dove  ho visto una fotografia che mi è piaciuta  tantissimo! Si trattava di una foto sovrapposta ad un’altra. Credo che in quel caso fosse una forchetta sopra ad un piatto e lì ho avuto l’ispirazione giusta, ossia l’idea di creare una borsa sopra ad una stampa di un’altra borsa. Tornata a casa ho iniziato ad elaborare la mia idea e a capire che borsa stampare sopra ad un’altra …. La numero uno al mondo per me è quella di Hermes, ma non potevo usarla direttamente, così  ho iniziato a disegnarla in modo diverso creando qualcosa che la richiamasse perfettamente, ma non fosse lei. Da quel giorno sono passati sei mesi, mesi in qui ho provato e riprovato perché ogni bozza era da fare e rifare …

Poi arriva il giorno in cui finalmente ce l’hai fisicamente in mano.

Ero innamorata della mia V73:  la guardavo , sembrava mi volesse parlare … mi ha preso nello stomaco una sensazione strana,  di gelosia e possessione, sai che ho fatto? L’ho chiusa nell’ armadio, non volevo più farla uscire.

E poi?

Poi un giorno è venuto a trovarci a casa Marco Doro, un amico e famoso rappresentante di accessori.  Mio marito mi obbligò a mostrargliela, ricordo che mi disse: “Sono sei mesi che diventi matta per questa borsa e ora la tieni chiusa in un armadio?” L’ho mostrata a  Marco un po’ intimidita, non sapevo se gli sarebbe piaciuta. Ma lui non  ha avuto dubbi : la voleva vendere subito. Io avevo quel modello realizzato e tutti gli altri li avrebbe dovuti vendere su un disegno a pannello. Fatto sta che l’estate scorsa Marco ha avuto un totale ordine per 25 mila borse, io ero felicissima, ma anche preoccupata: chi mi avrebbe prodotto tutte quelle borse? Grazie a mio marito e ai laboratori in Toscana siamo riusciti a realizzarle per tempo.

Il successo è stato immediato …

E’ stato tutto incredibile e fuori da ogni aspettativa, nel mese di dicembre erano esposte all’ Excelsior a Milano dove hanno venduto in un week end 50 borse in poche ore e di conseguenza sono state comprate dai titolari dei migliori negozi in Italia.  Successivamente sono state pubblicizzate su  Gioia,  Vanity Fair  e in pochi mesi hanno fatto il giro del mondo. Tra poco  saranno esposte in un’ importante fiera a New York e abbiamo aperto il primo mono marca a Miami nella via principale della moda.

Incredibile di questi tempi … Qual è il tuo segreto?

Ad ogni ragazzo giovane consiglio di studiare tanto e soprattutto di fare tanta, tanta gavetta perché senza il mio trascorso,  oggi non sarei qui a raccontarti questa storia. E’ fondamentale farsi “le ossa”, soffrire in un certo senso, perché ti fa crescere e ti insegna tantissimo … Un segreto? Io ho creato questa borsa, ma al di là dei materiali scelti, ci sono  soprattutto una passione e un amore profondo per loro alla base.  Questo è ciò  che trasmettono le mie borse e per loro voglio il meglio,: devono essere trattate nel miglior dei modi perché per me è come si trattasse  delle mie figlie! Se c’è il segreto è solo l’amore con cui le ho  fatte… L’amore è energia e fa il giro del mondo perché  è qualcosa di universale e le V73 sono un esempio fisico di questo pensiero.

La guardo  negli occhi mentre parla e vedo che si emoziona ed io con lei … Studio, duro lavoro e tanto amore : queste sono le V73,  le borse fenomeno!E  quando qualcuno si chiede come mai una persona più di un’altra nella vita è riuscito a realizzare i propri sogni, la risposta non è solo “è stata fortuna”, c’è molto molto di più dietro …

Good morning and happy Friday! Today I did some interviewing for you…but before telling you who I interviewed, let’s take a step back…last year I was in a boutique in Thiene, looking for my birthday present, the store is called Rosa, my boyfriend took me there and told me that for my 32^nd birthday I could buy whatever I wanted! So, you can imagine, I was all focused on looking for the best clothing items until I saw something that left me in shock, on top of a shelf there was a purse, and it was beautiful… if I couldn’t make up my mind for the clothing items, I was one hundred percent sure about that purse, that’s what I wanted! I look at the brand and see V73. Obviously, I immediately wanted to know as much as possible about it, and talking to the owner of Rosa, the store, I found out after a couple of minutes that the V73 purses are made in Treviso by a wonderful girl, Elisabetta Armellin, and that over a very few months they had such a great success that they entered the fashion world and all the best magazines were already talking about them! I was astonished to hear that and inside my head I was thinking that I really wanted to meet Elisabetta. After buying the purse, every time I would look at it, the longing to meet its creator would get stronger, until, for some random events, one year later I was sitting in her studio, looking in her eyes as she was telling me her beautiful story…it was great meeting her, and it felt like I had always known her…

Elisabetta, what does V73 mean?

73 is the number that I’m related to since I was born, as I was born in 1973, but it is also a number that has followed and accompanied me throughout my entire life, it is very recurring for me. While the letter V stands for Venice. I come from Treviso, but Venice has a special place in my heart and, if my creations were ever going to spread all over the world, I wanted a name that could bring back to my beloved Italy, and Venice.

Can you tell us something about your life?

I was born and raised in a wonderful family, my grandmother was a seamstress and I have always lived in a clothing related environment. Since I was a child I’ve always been extremely creative and my dream was to become a stylist, even though I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to design, I’ve always felt that I wasn’t meant for clothing. Later on I attended high school and then I graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. During college I attended a decoration and embroidering course,

organized by the company Stefanel. There were 150 of us, and they chose me. In this period I also started working as a Visual (I was in charge of designing the windows for the stores) and this allowed me to start traveling all over the world: an experience that really opened up my mind.

What did you do after university?  

I attended a master’s program for shoes and accessories at Marangoni school in Milan, and after that I got hired by the company Benetton to work in the shoes and bags department. It has been an extremely important working experience, which has helped mold me as a person and as a stylist. I worked there, with that job, for 10 years, but I still cover a consulting role for them. I consider the Benetton family as my family.

What happened in your life when you were 33?

I started working for Andrea Tomat, General Manager of the brand Lotto Sport, another person to whom I owe a lot. Together we created the Lotto Leggenda shoes (the ones with the black flower). Though, he wanted me to take a step forward, he had understood my great creative potential, but he also  had noticed that I didn’t know anything about business, so that was why he put in complete charge of the project. I was all about creativity, ideas and design, I didn’t know anything about numbers! He wanted me to learn also that side of our job, and I reluctantly accepted the challenge!

It was a very successful project, and then what happened?

Three and a half years later Andrea asked me to take part in the Stonefly project, but I felt that it was time for me to leave for my “big journey” and start creating something on my own. That’s when I opened my very own design studio.

So you start taking your first steps by yourself…

Yes, but as soon as Benetton heard about that I immediately got proposed to work for them as a consultant for kids shoes, and afterwards I started working for other brands such as Serafini, Gas, Stefanel, Coca etc.. It was hard, but somehow I was on, and my husband Stefano Greco was helping me because he owns a company that produces shoes between Asia and Italy.

So everything was going great…

I would say so, then four years ago my son Giacomo was born and I slowed down a little bit, but being

that not in my nature, as he turned three months I left for Paris to go see an exhibition and it’s right there that everything happened!

Can you tell us about it?

For the job I do, I buy and read thousands of magazines every year. I love looking, learning and getting inspired by the whole fashion market. I was at the airport on my way back home, I bought Vogue and I saw a photo that I really liked! It was a picture on top of another picture, I think in that case there was a fork on top of a plate, and that’s how I had the idea of creating a purse, printed on another purse. After I got home I immediately started working on that idea, trying to figure out which bag to print on the other one… number one in the entire world for me were the Hermés bags, but I couldn’t use it, so I started designing it in a different way, creating something that would perfectly recall their style, without being one of them. Six months had passed since that day, during which I’ve been trying over and over again, as every attempt and every sketch needed to be fixed! Then came the day when I finally had it in my hands.

I was in love with my V73, I would look at it and it was like it wanted to tell me something…a weird feeling of jealousy and possession started growing inside me and, would you like to know what I did? I locked it in my closet, and wasn’t going to ever let it out!

And then?

Then one day Marco Doro, friend of ours and famous accessories representative, came to visit us. My husband forced me to let him see the bag, I remember he said: “you went crazy for months over this purse and now you keep it closed in your closet?”. I shyly showed it to Marco, I didn’t know if he was going to like it, he wanted to see it without a doubt. I only had that one model realized, so he would have had to see all the others from a drawing. Well, that summer Marco had a total of 25 thousands purses ordered, I was incredibly happy, but also a little worried: who was going to manufacture that many purses? Thanks to my husband and to some workshops in Tuscany all of the bags were ready in time…

A great success came right after…

It was incredible and beyond any expectation, in the month of December my bags were exposed at the Excelsior in Milan, where in the time of one weekend 50 purses got sold and also the owners of

the best stores in Italy bought them.

Afterwards they appeared in some of the biggest magazines, from Gioia to Vanity Fair and in a few months they became worldwide. Soon they will be exposed at an important exhibition in New York and we have recently opened the first one brand store in the main fashion road in Miami.

That’s quite incredible for these days…what is your secret?

My advice to every young boy or girl is to study hard and work harder, gain a lot of experience because if it wasn’t for my past, I wouldn’t be here telling my story. It is fundamental to learn the ropes and even to go through some hard times, because they will teach you so much and make you stronger… A secret? I have created this purse, but before thinking about the materials to realize it, I created it with so much passion and deep love, and this is what my purses express. And I only want the best for my bags, they deserve to be treated as good as possible, I consider them as my own children! If there really is a secret in this success, it is the incredible love with which my bags are made. Love is energy and it goes around the world because it is something universal. And the V73s are a perfect example of this.

I look into her eyes as she speaks, she is very touched, and so am I… Study, hard work and a lot of love, that’s what the V73s are, the purses of wonder. And if someone wonders why, in life, one person achieves more than another one, it is not just luck, there is a whole world behind it…
