Buongiorno, eccoci qui con una nuova intervista, ve lo ricordate il post della settimana scorsa? Quello in cui si  parlava ai genitori chiedendo se siano favorevoli o meno alle telecamere negli asili? Ecco, devo ringraziare le mamme del web perché a migliaia mi hanno risposto … e una in particolare ha dato voce al dibattito.  Ilaria Maggi, mamma di uno dei bambini dell’asilo Cip e Ciop di Pistoia, l’istituto divenuto  purtroppo famoso perché due maestre , Anna Laura Scuderi e Elena Pesce,  maltrattavano psicologicamente e fisicamente i lori piccoli alunni. Dopo avere “conosciuto”  Ilaria le ho chiesto se le andava di rilasciarmi un’ intervista e lei ha accettato subito.  L’argomento è molto delicato e per noi italiani rimane una ferita aperta che sanguina e che ahimè, dopo le ultime scoperte di maltrattamenti anche in un asilo a Milano, continua a sanguinare. La mia domanda è forse troppo semplice e non trova risposte, perché? Perché queste maestre osano fare tanto ai nostri figli? Abitiamo in un paese forse troppo permissivo?  Bisogna mettere le telecamere negli asili? Nel web mi è stato risposto molte volte di sì, ma anche nelle scuole e nei ricoveri per anziani… Io rimango favorevole, la parola ora a Ilaria:

 

1. Te lo ricordi com’è stato il tuo impatto con l’asilo Cip e Cip, quando sei entrata la prima volta: hai respirato aria serena?

Mio figlio aveva 7 mesi ed il primo asilo che ho visitato e che ha frequentato è stato il secondo asilo gestito da Anna Laura Scuderi ovvero ‘Il Magico Bosco’ a Quarrata in provincia di Pistoia ed anche su questo c’è attualmente un processo in corso per il solito reato. L’asilo mi apparve pulito, bello, era nuovo…a colpo d’occhio niente ovviamente mi dette da pensare, altrimenti come penso sia facile immaginare, non avrei mai lasciato a loro mio figlio.

2. Per quanto tempo il tuo bambino è andato in quell’asilo?

Mio figlio è entrato a 7 mesi e ne è uscito dopo oltre due anni purtroppo.

3. Tuo figlio ha dimostrato sintomi diversi o comportamenti che ti potessero far sospettare qualcosa?

No,  non ho mai sospettato niente relativamente ai maltrattamenti. I famosi “campanelli di allarme” c’erano ma la mia inesperienza e la totale assenza di informazioni precedenti nella società rispetto a questo tipo di reato, non mi hanno permesso di interpretarli nel modo corretto. Mio figlio aveva cambiato abitudini alimentari, aveva il sonno agitato e a volte faceva incubi. Detto ad oggi forse pare banale non supporre ad un problema a scuola, ma vi garantisco che prima che si vedessero decine di casi in tv, nessuno sospettava che qualcuno potesse legare vostro figlio per ore con lo scotch o altro.

4. Quando il fattaccio è uscito e perché?

L’Arresto è avvenuto il 2 Dicembre 2009. Le indagini partirono da un papà, sant’uomo, che qualche anno prima aveva avuto il bimbo in quell’asilo. Aveva sentito voci pessime in giro riguardo alla struttura ed ha deciso di fare un esposto. Non finirò mai di ringraziarlo per il suo senso civico ed il suo gesto assolutamente NON scontato.

5. Come hai aiutato tuo figlio successivamente?

Mio figlio ha cominciato quasi immediatamente un percorso di psicoterapia al quale anche noi genitori ci siamo sottoposti. E poi insieme, passo dopo passo, abbiamo affrontato i problemi e gli strascichi contro i quali tutt’ora combattiamo. Ad ogni cambio di struttura, ad ogni episodio magari difficile, facciamo qualche passo indietro e poi di nuovo avanti…senza mai mollare, giorno dopo giorno…

 6. Quale è stato il tuo stato d’animo?

Non so se sia possibile spiegarlo. Persa. Mi sentivo persa e spaurita. Come se uno Tsunami mi avesse fatto tabula rasa intorno e noi dovessimo ricominciare tutto da capo. Non sapevo chi chiamare, cosa fare, a chi appoggiarmi. Ecco perché insieme ad altri genitori abbiamo fondato La Via dei Colori. Per essere di aiuto a chi si trovava a vivere quel nostro stesso senso di vertigine.

7. Ci sono dei  processi ancora in atto, cosa ha chiesto l’avvocato dell’accusa come pena per queste maestre?

I processi in corso in sono tre. Il primo processo contro le prime due imputate nel Cip Ciop ha già avuto la sentenza di secondo grado in Corte d’Appello con pene di 6 anni e 4 mesi e 5 anni; il secondo processo è contro una dirigente del comune di Pistoia e la cuoca della struttura e la sentenza di primo grado è attesa per il 10 Luglio 2014; il terzo processo infine è di nuovo contro la Scuderi per l’altro asilo di cui accennavo prima. Ogni reato contestato ha una pena edittale specifica che poi può essere aumentata o diminuita da riti alternativi, aggravanti ed attenuanti. 8. Esiste un modo sano di prevenzione secondo la tua esperienza?

Ovviamente sì. E là dove non ne esista uno, con degli esperti che collaborano con noi, stiamo provando a studiare al fine di trovarne uno. Sicuramente controlli a monte delle assunzioni e controlli periodici su struttura e personale. Al momento c’è molto, molto, molto da fare.

9. Raccontaci della bellissima associazione La Via dei colori di cui sei presidente, come è nata e lo scopo.

Dopo qualche mese dalla scoperta dei terribili fatti che ci riguardavano, uscì il caso di Pinerolo e negli occhi di quei genitori in TV riconoscemmo i nostri meno di un anno prima. Fu così che insieme ad altri genitori decidemmo ad un anno esatto dall’arresto, di fondare La Via dei Colori. Era il 2 Dicembre 2010. Da allora ci impegniamo ogni giorno per fornire ascolto, sostegno, organizzazione ed aiuto tecnico e pratico a chiunque avesse dubbi riguardo ad una scuola o casa di cura  ed a chi si trova a vivere una realtà sconcertante come abbiamo vissuto noi.

10. Oggi, dopo tutto,  riesci ad avere fiducia delle insegnanti di tuo figlio?

Certo che si! Il nostro Paese è pieno d’insegnanti meravigliose che fanno il loro lavoro con amore e passione sconfinata. Mio figlio stesso è stato accolto e accudito da persone meravigliose che hanno contribuito a rimetterlo al mondo con immensa fatica. Gestire un bimbo che ha subito maltrattamenti in una struttura non è assolutamente una cosa semplice così come non è semplice riconquistare la sua fiducia. Ecco perché, grazie al Comitato Scientifico della nostra associazione abbiamo creato un Progetto che si chiama Hakuna Matata per sostenere le insegnanti e formarle sostenendole nel complicatissimo percorso di inserimento di un bimbo in disturbo post traumatico da stress.

 11. Il tuo bambino oggi quanti anni ha e come sta?

Mio figlio oggi ha 7 anni e purtroppo porta ancora i segni trasparenti di questa brutta storia. Le ferite del cuore e della mente sono forse invisibili all’occhio umano, ma impiegano molto più tempo dei lividi a guarire e lasciano cicatrici indelebili che ciclicamente torneranno a dar fastidio. Ma noi non molleremo…

Cip e Ciop asylum of Horrors: Mom Ilaria Maggi tells her story

Good morning, here we are with a new interview, do you remember last week’s post? The one about parents and whether they were favorable or not to surveillance cameras in kindergartens? Well  I have to thank all the moms on the internet because I have received thousands of replies…and one in particular even started a debate: Ilaria Maggi, mom of one of the children of the “Cip e Ciop” nursery school in Pistoia, the school that has become unfortunately famous because of the two teachers, Anna Laura Scuderi and Elena Pesce, who psychologically and physically abused the little children. After talking to Ilaria I asked her if she was ok with being interviewed and she accepted immediately. The subject is very touchy and for us Italians it still is an open wound that keeps bleeding, especially after the last news on the abuse in a nursery school in Milan. My question is maybe too simple and I can’t find an answer, why? Why do these teachers dare to do that to our kids? Do we live in a country that’s too tolerant? Do we really need to have video surveillance in kindergartens? According to many of the replies I have received, the answer is yes, as well as in schools and retirement homes…I am favorable to  that, let’s now hear Ilaria:

1.What impression did you have as you first walked in the Cip e Ciop school? Was it a serene environment?

My son was 7 months old and the first nursery school he attended was the one ran by Anna Laura Scuderi, which was called ”Il Magico Bosco”, in Quarrata, a suburb of Pistoia, which is also currently on trial for the same reason. The school seemed clean, nice, new…obviously at first glance nothing gave me a bad impression, otherwise, of course, I would have never left my child with them.

2.How long had you son attended that school?

My son was 7 months old when he started going there, and unfortunately he stayed there for two years.

3.Did your son show any symptoms or different behaviors that could possibly make you suspicious?

No, I have never suspected anything concerning abuse. The “alarm bells” were ringing but my insufficient experience and the complete lack of information of this type of crime misled me and caused me to overlook them. My son had changed his food habits, he had a restless sleep and experienced nightmares. Looking back, it almost comes natural to think about school issues, but I can assure you that, before hearing of all those child abuse, nobody would have ever thought that there could be someone out there who ties your baby with duct tape, or something like that.

4. When did the fact come out and why?

The arrest occurred on December 2^nd, 2009. Investigations started thanks to a father who had his child attending that school some years before. He had heard terrible rumors about the facility and decided to start a petition. I will never be thankful enough for his civic duty and his action, that was absolutely NOT to be taken for granted.

5. How did you help your son afterwards?

Almost immediately my son started psychotherapy sessions which we, as parents, attended as well. And then all together, step by step, we faced the problems and  the aftermath, which we are still fighting. Each time we change school, at every hurdle we meet, we take a step back and then we move forward again…we never give up, day after day…

6. How do you feel about this?

I don’t think it would be possible to explain it. I felt lost. Lost and scared. As if a Tsunami had destroyed everything around us and we had to start from scratch. I didn’t know who to call, what to do, who to ask for help to. That’s why, together with other parents, we have established The Path of Colors. So we can help those people who find themselves going through the same awful feeling.

7. There still are trials in place, what did the prosecutor ask as a punishment for these?

There are currently three trials taking place. The first trial against the first two defendants in the Cip e Ciop school has already had the second-degree judgment in the Court of Appeal with sentences of 6 years and 4 months and 5 years; the second trial is against a town official of Pistoia and the school’s chef, the verdict in the case is waiting for July 10^th, 2014. Finally, the third trial is again against Scuderi for the other preschool mentioned earlier. Each offense has a statutory penalty specification which can then be increased or decreased by alternative rites, aggravating and mitigating circumstances.  On our site (www.laviadeicolori.org) you can read judicial specifications of all our processes and others that we are monitoring with the association.

8. Is there a healthy way of prevention according to your experience?

Obviously yes, and where there is not one currently in place, with the experts who we are working with, we are conducting research in order to find one. Surely, controls upstream of recruitment and periodic inspections of facility and staff might help. Right now there is still a long way to go to achieve our goal.

9. Tell us about The Path of Colors of which you are the President, how did it started and what does it aim to?

A few months after these concerning events had surfaced came the case of Pinerolo, and in the eyes of those parents we saw on TV, we recognized ours,  less than a year before. That’s when, along with other parents, we decided to found The Path of Colors, exactly one year after the arrest. It was December 2^nd, 2010 and since then, we strive every day to provide listening, support, organization and technical and practical help to anyone who has doubts about a school or nursing home, and those who come to live a disconcerting reality, like the one we lived.

10. Can you still trust your son’s teachers today?

Of course I do! Our country is full of wonderful teachers who do their job with love and boundless passion. My son himself has been welcomed and taken care of by amazing people who have contributed to introduce him to the world again with great effort. To handle children who have undergone school abuse is certainly not easy, and it is just as difficult to regain their trust. That’s why, thanks to the Scientific Committee of our association, we have created a project called Hakuna Matata, in order to help and prepare teachers, supporting them through the extremely complex path of integrating a child with a post-traumatic stress disorder.

11. How old is you son today and how is he doing?

My son is now 7 years old and sadly he is still affected by this awful experience. Mind and heart wounds may be invisible to the eyes, but they surely take way longer than bruises to heal, and they leave permanent scars that, from time to time, will come back and hurt again. But we won’t give up…
